Description:

The Competitive Choreography program is designed to give dancers a well-rounded education and a foundation for success in their futures. The choreography classes include performance opportunities at our Winter Fundraiser, Spring Choreography Showcase, Year End Show and a minimum of four Lower Mainland competitions in the spring. Additional competitions may be added if the entire group wishes/agrees to attend and is at the discretion of the competitive choreography program director.

In addition to their Choreography class, all competitive students are required to take the corresponding tap technique and movement/performance training dance classes. Tap technique classes help dancers maintain and learn the tap steps, rhythms, musicality and necessary information to execute their tap choreography. The movement/performance training classes are aimed to enhance the dancer's overall fitness, flexibility, performance, and exposure to movement outside of tap technique to become well rounded dancers. 

All students in the competition program will be required to sign the choreography competition contract on the first week of classes which outlines the student and program expectations. 

The Competitive Choreography Program is led by Director Riley Skworoda.

Notes: *Please note that for the 2023/2024 season competition fees will not be charged as one upfront fee but will be charged per event based on the fees for each individual competition* Dress Code - Hair must be tied back. This includes bangs where a dancer can not see properly. - No jeans are allowed. - Please wear comfortable, breathable loose clothing. E.g. leggings and tank top, shorts and t-shirt. Large hoodies will be asked to be taken off once dancers are warm. No inappropriate logos, graphics or revealing clothing. - Tap shoes are required. If you do not own shoes, please ask our front desk about our shoe rental policy (subject to size availability). Withdrawal from Academy Programming If a dancer would like to stop attending classes at VanTap in any class that is part of our 10 month program, the primary contact must fill out an Academy Withdrawal Form. Then the academy manager will withdraw and stop tuition payments as is fit. Please note there will be a $15 admin fee charged for this change. Refund Policy At VanTap we understand unforeseen circumstances may arise resulting in the change or withdrawal of a program. Our refund policy is as follows for Academy Programming: 10 Month Programs (Sept - June, youth and adult) - Must complete class Academy Withdrawal Form - If paid in full for 10 month program, payment will be refunded starting the following month. E.g. if you requested withdrawal Oct 24, payment will be refunded for Nov - June. - If you chose monthly installments for method of payment, payments will be stopped the following month. E.g. if you requested withdrawal Oct 24, payment will be stopped as of Nov. Drop-in Classes - Non-refundable and non replaceable Special Courses - E.g. 8 week adult absolute beginner course 50% refundable within 7 business days of first day of class - No refund within 7 business days of first class. - No refund after the first class. Camps/Intensives E.g. Dance Days of Spring, Bootcamp, Dance Days of Summer etc. - 50% refundable within 7 business days of first day of class - No refund within 7 business days of first class - No refund after the first class. Show tickets E.g. VanTap Choreography Showcase, Year end Show, fundraisers etc. - Non-refundable Other Fees E.g. Registration Fees, Costume Fees, Shoe Rental Fees and other various costs. - Non-refundable Van Tap reserves the right to cancel or combine classes if registration does not surpass a minimum enrolment rate. Prerequisites: An audition is required for any students who were not enrolled with VanTap during the 2022/23 season. For the upcoming the 23/24 season we are accepting video or in-person auditions until September 11th.
