This April 16th, Christine Joy is looking forward to teaching a new watercolor workshop focusing on the beauty of sunsets! In this class we will be learning how to paint vibrant skies and intentionally “bleed” the colors in a soft gradient. 

Christine will give a demonstration at the beginning of class and then the rest of class will be painting time for the students. She will make sure each student gets attention and tips based on their experience. 

This class will be great for first time painters as well as intermediate painters. For beginning painters we will learn how to set up our palettes and go through some of the basics of watercolors. For more advanced painters there will be further tips and tricks.

In this class we will be working from photos, so students are also invited to bring in their own photo inspiration to work from - however Christine will be providing many great photos as well. Some extra focuses of this class will include: brushwork, texture, and of course some color theory!

Though watercolors can seem like a tricky medium to some, there are many strategies we will work on together to make the process not only easier but also more enjoyable! Watercolors are an amazingly compact medium making the supplies easy to take anywhere. Once the students have their watercolor kits made they will be able to use it for many years to come.

MATERIALS: 

• 140lb Arches cotton cold press paper OR Watercolor journal (with thick paper inside - can be found at the Merri Artist in McMinnville)
• Watercolor palette (one that folds close)
• Paint Brushes (soft synthetic):
  • #10 round
  • #4 or #5 round
  • rigger/liner (thin and long)
  • large flat edge brush
• Paper Towel Roll
• Watercolor Paint Tubes:
  • cadmium yellow light
  • cadmium yellow deep
  • cadmium red
  • alizarin crimson
  • violet
  • ultramarine blue
  • hookers green
    permanent magenta
  • payne's gray
  • burnt sienna
  • Optional Additional Colors:
    Green Gold
    burnt umber
    phthalo blue
    cadmium orange
    yellow ochre
    cerulean blue hue (Grumbacher Academy brand - found at Blicks)
    permanent green/gold
• small notebook for notes and pencil (optional)
