American women who went to work in industries to aid the war effort in WWII became known under the moniker 'Rosie the Riveter'. Interestingly, Canadian women also had their own icon, The Bren Gun Girl. The call for women to join the workforce was meant to be temporary and women were expected to leave their jobs when the men came home. However, the impact of World War II on women changed the workplace forever, and women’s roles continued to expand in the postwar era. In this presentation we will explore the women who answered the call of ‘Rosie the Riveter.’
