Description :

With the arrival of a fresh new year, another planting calendar is starting, bringing back the joy of getting your hands dirty in the fast-approaching growing season! If you are a beginner gardener dreaming of growing your own food from seeds this year, it's important to plan ahead and get ready to start early, and this is the perfect class to help set you up for success this spring and summer.

Join Jennifer Lipka, an MSc Student at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems of UBC, who has years of practical experience and will discuss what food crops you need to start indoors and when, how to sow, germinate, and care for your seedlings indoors and explore the materials you'll need to grow successfully (with an eye towards a range of budgets). Additionally, the class will cover topics such as which soil to use, how to choose, containers and pots, and discuss the option to use grow lights to extend your season. The session will finish with a demonstration.

This course will take place online, and recordings will be available for a limited time to participants.
