Description:
This course will provide the theoretical knowledge required to safely and competently operate as skipper or captain with full understanding and application of: nautical terminology, safety, vessel checkout, basic rope work, refueling, crew overboard procedures, capsizing, swamping, sinking, anchors and anchoring, running aground and the responsibilities of the crew, small powerboats and rigid inflatable boats, boat handling under power, sails and sail handling, basic meteorology, short passages including heavy weather, restricted visibility, and negotiating harbour entrances, compasses and magnetism, charts, chart work and basic navigation, tides and currents, buoyage, collision regulations, navigation lights, basic first aid and responsibilities of the skipper or captain. To complete the ICC process an on-water practical evaluation (not included in the course fee) is also required. This is an in-person course. Course fee includes ICC Certificate Fee. (Certificate processed after afloat challenge completed.

Notes: HBSC Cancelation and Refund Policy For classroom courses, one date change will be allowed within the same season, up to 14 days prior to the course start date free of charge. Re-booking based on course availability. For cancellations more than 30 days prior to the start of a classroom course, fees will be refunded, less 15% cancellation fee and the price of any distributed course materials. (ie: Text books)For cancellations 10-30 days prior to the course start date, 25% of the course fee will be retained plus the price of any distributed course materials. For cancellation within 10 days of the course start date or after the course has started, there will be no refunds.
Prerequisites: Our recommendations for successfully challenging the ICC AFLOAT CHALLENGE Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising Standard or equivalent sailing experience, ROC(M) VHF certificate with DSC endorsement, Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card.
