This evaluation is the afloat evaluation listed below along with the written exam. Candidate will recieve the IYT Student notes and a link to the online IYT theory modules after they register.

This evaluation is conducted as a challenge wherein you, the experienced sailor, demonstrate your sailing abilities to the instructor and are evaluated against the ICC requirements.

The skills involved include successfully demonstrating the following: preparation for sea and mechanical checklist, departing from the dock by springing off, securing to a buoy and anchoring, knot tying including bowline, clove hitch, and reef knot, crew overboard procedures including triangle or figure eight method, quick stop method, or broad reach-close reach method, 360 degree turn, alongside skills in communication, use of lines and fenders, springing on, boat handling under sail including tacking, gybing, heaving to, boat handling under power including correct use of speed and control while maneuvering, vessel handling, communication, knowledge of the buoyage system and COLREGS.

Conducted on your own boat or on a HBSC school boat with evaluation dates scheduled by mutual agreement. Register and pay through our registration portal and one of our IYT certified instructors will contact you to set up a mutually convenient time for your evaluation.

Prerequisites: Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising Standard or equivalent sailing experience, ROC(M) VHF certificate with DSC endorsement, Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card.
