Start date: Wednesday, October 4 2023.

Schedule:

On Wednesday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

 From 10/4/2023 until 6/5/2024

Resource person: Sarah Ferholt (sarahferholt@bns146.org)

Description:

In the fall children will rank their top instrument choices and Sarah will work to make sure all of our beginners are happy with the instrument they get to learn.  Need more details? Click "More Information" below.  Ready to register now? Click the RED button below.

All instrumental students will receive a book and a band instrument when they start our class, as well a music stand to keep at home when they submit their agreement form to take home their instrument for daily practice. Children will be expected to practice their instrument daily for 10-20 minutes, and to bring their instrument to school on Band days.

All children will learn from a professional musician on their primary instrument and will learn instrumental technique along with many other aspects of musicianship. These skills will transfer to learning any instrument and any musical pursuits in the future. Instrumental learning has been shown to support academic success and promote social and emotional well-being. We’re excited for another great year.

Donation information - We believe that if everyone participates at the levels outlined below in our sliding scale band will be fully funded, so that everyone in our community can participate. To make band possible we need everyone to donate what they can. Suggested donation amounts are below. Without your contributions the band cannot be funded.

Don’t freak out… donations to band are made by clicking the red "register" button  and selecting the “membership” level that is right for you.

SEE WHICH INCOME BRACKET YOUR FAMILY FALLS INTO:  When selecting a level on our sliding scale, we encourage families to contribute at the level that is right for them, a level that is meaningful, significant, and affordable. If you are able to donate the amount on the higher end of the sliding scale, please do so as a way of demonstrating your commitment to fair pay for our staff, and equal opportunity for ALL children to learn instrumental music.

WHY A SLIDING SCALE?  A sliding scale donation structure gives all families the opportunity to access our programs. We believe everyone has a right to make music in community and to learn to play an instrument. In order to build a music program that is open to and created by all, we believe a sliding scale will increase access for our students and families, and provide a richer, better experience for everyone who participates. Our sliding scale requires your active participation. Building economic justice takes some time and effort. By using a sliding scale, we are practicing economic solidarity: we are cooperating with all BNS families to create a more equitable, inclusive and just community. We hope that our broad sliding scale allows more people to participate.

Recommended Instrumental Band Donation Ranges per child for the school year based on household income are listed in the membership selection. All donations are Tax Deductible.

When you check out you will be offered donation amounts to pick from.  If one of these amounts seems right for your family based on your household income ranges, please select it, and check out (and thank you).  If the amounts we offered below don’t make sense for your family, please do pick the “Speak with Sarah”  option so we can meet your needs.
