Location: Greenwich Point Park

Description:

WaterCats is a hands-on, off-the beach, multihull experience. Catamarans are the speedboats of sailing. Expect to get wet! We use both 14-foot RS Catamarans and 16-foot RS Catamarans to provide a broad range of experience. Juniors have an opportunity to try both.

WaterCats is ideal for juniors with a limited schedule. It is just one week long. 2 hours per day. Monday through Friday. There is an instructor on board each boat and students are grouped by age.

There is a different destination sail each day to explore local waters while practicing multihull handling technique. Where we go and what we do each day is based on tide and weather.

You will learn how to maneuver, handle the sheets, self-rescue from a capsize, and how to “fly” a hull.

This is not a how-to-sail course. Sailing fundamentals are taught in the Core Courses. WaterCats is intended to be a supplement to, rather than a substitute for, proper learn-to-sail training.

Beginners are still welcome, and will have a lot of fun, but WaterCats does not satisfy, nor replace, any prerequisites in the Core Curriculum.

Greenwich Residents

Tod’s Point Sailing School is located in Greenwich Point Park which requires Town issued Beach Passes or Guest Passes for access to the Park. Greenwich residents can apply for Beach Passes at Town Hall.

Out-of-Town Visitors

Out-of-town parents dropping off and picking up their children for scheduled Tod’s Point Sailing School programs may enter the park in accordance with the following guidelines. The parent must show proof (TPSS Registration receipt) that the children being dropped off are enrolled in a sailing program on that specific date. The Gatehouse Gatekeeper will hold the driver’s license while they drop off the student(s) and return it when the driver exits the park. That normally takes approximately 15 minutes.

As a reminder, if someone in the car is planning to stay at the beach and not leave immediately, they need to have a day pass to stay in the park for that day. If the parent dropping off the children plans on staying in the park, they would need a parking pass for the car and a day pass for each person in the car. The passes can be purchased on line Monday through Friday from May 1st through October 31st.

Out of Town Non-Resident Guest Passes can be purchased online on the Town of Greenwich website here.
