Description:
This class will have 12 lessons. In lessons 1-4, the students will learn to properly develop their purpose, topic, thesis, and sources for a research essay. In lessons 5-7, they will learn and review how to create MLA citations by choosing and organizing sources for their essay. The students will learn to analyze their sources and differentiate between effective sources and ineffective sources for their essays. In lesson 8-12, the students will learn how to write and present an argument about a topic from a particular point of view. The students will write their body paragraphs with a focus on supporting details, counterarguments, and efficacious word choices that reflect what they have learned through their extensive research. The students will learn how to complete their essays by writing a meaningful introduction and conclusion for their essay. The students will effectively format and complete their research essays. The students will also present their essays to the class and receive peer feedback.

Required age: 12 - 18 on the day of the activity

Prerequisites: This course is for high school students (9th-12th grade).
