Description:
May 1 - This program will provide an introduction to the concepts we will explore further during our trip to the G.R. Paine Horticultural Training Centre on May 8. In this program, students will get the chance to explore the art and science of cultivating plants and garden crops. We will learn about soil chemistry, basic plant botany, basic needs for plant growth, and how we can optimise the environment to help plants grow! May 8 @ 10:00 -11:30 AM - This program will take place at Vancouver Island University's G.R. Paine Centre, where we will get a tour of the Horticulture Centre and have a chance to apply our horticulture knowlege from the previous week! With a horticulture centre guide, students will learn about the Paine Horticultural centre and have the opportunity to ask questions about what they see. Students, will also get the chance to learn about native plants and explore the horticulture facilities. We recommend students bring a snack and water for a small picnic after the tour! This program covers BC Science curriculum including: Basic needs of plants and animals Classification of living and non-living things Names of local plants and animals Structural features of living things in the local environment Water conservation Experience and interpret the local environment Demonstrate curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world Express and reflect on personal experiences of place
