Description:

May 29 - In preparation for our trip to VIU's Earth Science department, we will be learning all about landforms and erosion. In this lesson, students will explore weathering, erosion, and how different processes influence earth’s landforms over time. Students will also learn about different types of landforms, the rock cycle, and how different rocks are affected by various processes including our local environment! 

June 5 - This program will take place at Vancouver Island University in their Earth Sciences Department. It will be faciliated by Professor Gerri McEwan. We will get to see fossils, use microscopes, and experience their augmented reality sandbox.

This program covers BC Science curriculum including:

  • Major local landforms

  • Observable changes in the local environment caused by erosion and deposition by wind, water, and ice 

  • Biodiversity in the local environment

  • Classification of living and non-living things

  • Water sources including local watersheds 

  • Weather changes

  • Seasonal changes

  • Living things make changes to accommodate daily and seasonal cycles

  • Water conservation

  • The water cycle
